Pictures set off in the mind are fun to watch aren’t they? One of the things I like best about Christian music is that artists frequently create a fresh image to a familiar theme or idea.
Consider the theme of heaven. Crystal Lewis invites us to heaven in “People Get Ready” (http://www.lyricskeeper.com/crystal_lewis-lyrics/121252-people_get_ready-lyrics.htm). 2 Peter 3: 3-4 was a background verse for the fresh inspiration of this song.
Steven Curtis Chapman longed for heaven in “Heaven is the Face.” Steven and his wife Mary Beth have endured the heartbreaking loss of their five-year-old daughter Maria. (http://www.metrolyrics.com/heaven-is-the-face-lyrics-steven-curtis-chapman.html)
And a third example is the crossover song by Mercyme “I Can Only Imagine” which makes everyone reflect on the moment when this temporary life is finished and we’re face-to-face with Jesus. (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/mercyme/icanonlyimagine.html).
If you want to listen to these artists perform their songs on the theme of heaven they can be heard on YouTube.
As we enter 2012 my prayer for you is that you will keep your Christian faith fresh by allowing Christ to sing his song in and through you. Happy New Year!
